Dr. Shah is Founder and Chairman of Janaseva Foundation. He served as Director at Large and is now International Director, IFA, since more than 6 years. He is renowned gastroenterologist, associated with a number of prominent hospitals, a highly accomplished physician, and a teacher of medicine. He is Honorary Physician to the Governor of Maharashtra.
Founded in January 1988, Janaseva Foundation is involved in Health Care, Elderly Care, Disabled Care, and Research in rural ageing. Under Dr. Shah’s guidance foundation arranged National Seminar on Active & Healthy Ageing in collaboration with WHO-SEARO in Pune. He participated as an Expert in Ageing in many conferences organized by WHO, UN, HelpAge India, ILC-I, Govt. of India etc. and has delivered more than 100 lectures. Foundation runs Regional Resource Training Centre, Mobile Medical Units in 105 villages and constructed more than 2000 toilets in rural villages. Janaseva Foundation along with Duke University of North Carolina, USA, has conducted research project on elderly from rural areas of Maharashtra and papers based on this have been published by many national and international journals of repute. Foundation publishes news bulletin ‘Ageing and Longevity News’ in which IFA is given due publicity. Dr. Shah is actively involved in Age Friendly Pune City, prevention of Elder Abuse. He has written articles on various problems of senior citizens in many journals e.g. HelpAge, IFA etc.
Foundation is given Special Consultative Status by UN and is also accredited to UN Open Ended Working Group on Ageing and attended it’s meetings and spoke on various issues of senior citizens. Ministry of Social Welfare and Empowerment, Govt. of India, has bestowed Vayoshreshtha Samman Award on Janaseva Foundation under the Category of Best Institution for providing Services to Senior Citizens and Awareness Generation. Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance, Govt. of Maharashtra, bestowed on Janaseva Foundation it’s prestigious Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Samajbhushan Award for organization doing Exemplary Social Service. Lions Clubs International bestowed it’s highest hounour Ambassador of Goodwill Award on Dr. Vinod Shah and Rotary International awarded him Paul Harris Fellowship.
Dr. Shah is former member of Planning Commission of India’s Steering Committee on the empowerment of persons with disabilities, ageing and social welfare groups. He is actively involved in forming State Policy for Senior Citizens of government of Maharashtra and is Expert Member (Ageing) of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
