Dr. Shah is the founder and chairman of the Janaseva Foundation. He has served as Director at Large for the Board of the International Federation on Ageing. He is a renowned gastroentologist, associated with a number of prominent hospitals, a highly accomplished physician, and a teacher of medicine. He presently serves as Honorary Physician to the Governor of Maharashtra.
Founded in January 1988, the Janaseva Foundation is involved in health care, elderly care, disabled care, and research in rural ageing. It has been accredited by the United Nations for strengthening the protection of older people’s human rights. Under Dr. Shah’s guidance, the Foundation arranged the National Seminar on Active & Healthy Ageing in collaboration with WHO-SEARO in Pune.
Dr. Shah is a member of the Planning Commission of India’s steering committee on the empowerment of persons with disabilities and social welfare groups for the formation of the country’s 12th Five Year Plan. He is actively involved in forming and executing state policy for senior citizens with the government of Maharashtra.
