Overall Purpose of Internships
To provide a vehicle of learning on ageing issues globally through being involved in the projects and programs as they relate to the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) a non-government organization (NGO) with consultative status with the United Nations and its agencies including the World Health Organization. The IFA reaches to individuals and organisations in 62 countries so the opportunities for active involvement at all levels of operation are substantial. 


Goals of the Internship

Interns are encouraged to develop personal and professional goals, which are reviewed on a regular basis to ascertain new learning directions and skills, which can be facilitated through our networks.



Scope of the Internship
The scope of the Internship is directly related to the experience of the candidate and the duration of the Internship. All interns are welcomed as a member of staff and encouraged to participate in all activities that occur within IFA and associated networks around the world.


Composition of Internship
Undertake specific projects in conjunction with the Secretary General and Director, International and Corporate Relations that are part of the IFA workplan or commissioned work, such as the examples below:

  • Research and contribute articles and updates to the monthly IFA eNewsletter in the areas of Policy, Practice and the Impact that each as on older people
  • Contribute to the knowledge bank of information at the IFA through being actively involved in major international studies
  • Involvement in administrative tasks to better understand the operations of an international NGO
  • Involvement in the IFA website with respect to updating and enhancing its purpose to inform and educate consumers, organisations and governments globally
  • Meeting with local and regional NGOs on ageing issues and report back to the IFA on their roles and responsibilities.
